Electric-field noise in a high-temperature superconducting surface ion trap

چکیده

Scaling up trapped-ion quantum computers requires new trap materials to be explored. Here we present experiments with a surface ion made from the high-temperature superconductor YBCO, promising material for future designs. We show that voltage noise superconducting electrode leads is negligible within sensitivity ${S}_{V}=9\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}20}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{V}}^{2}/\mathrm{Hz}$ of our setup, and lead dimensions typical advanced Furthermore, investigate frequency temperature dependence electric-field above YBCO surface. find $1/f$ spectral nontrivial dependence, plateau in stretching over roughly $60\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$. The onset coincides transition, indicating connection between dominant material. exclude bulk as origin suggest further decide two remaining options explaining observed dependence: screening phase, or activated by through some unknown mechanism.

100-fold reduction of electric-field noise in an ion trap cleaned with in situ argon-ion-beam bombardment.

Motional heating of trapped atomic ions is a major obstacle to their use as quantum bits in a scalable quantum computer. The detailed physical origin of this heating is not well understood, but experimental evidence suggests that it is caused by electric-field noise emanating from the surface of the trap electrodes. In this study, we have investigated the role of adsorbates on the electrodes by...

Microfabricated surface ion trap on a high-finesse optical mirror.

A novel approach to optics integration in ion traps is demonstrated based on a surface electrode ion trap that is microfabricated on top of a dielectric mirror. Additional optical losses due to fabrication are found to be as low as 80 ppm for light at 422 nm. The integrated mirror is used to demonstrate light collection from, and imaging of, a single Sr88(+) ion trapped 169±4 μm above the mirror.

A new ring-shape high-temperature superconducting trapped-field magnet

This paper presents a new trapped-field magnet made of second-generation high-temperature superconducting (2G HTS) rings. This so-called ring-shape 2G HTS magnet has the potential to provide much stronger magnetic fields relative to existing permanent magnets. Compared to existing 2G HTS trappedfield magnets, e.g. 2G HTS bulks and stacks, this new ring-shape 2G HTS magnet is more flexible in si...

Multilayers for high-To superconducting electric field effect devices

Epitaxial multilayers, consisting of a PrBa2Cu307_ x buffer layer, ultrathin YBa2Cu307_ x and SrTiO 3, have been grown for application in electric field effect devices. Different analytical techniques indicate a sharp interface between the layers and good dielectric properties of the SrTiO3-1ayer. First measurements show clear modification of the superconductor's current-voltage characteristics...
